The Adventure Sports Guarantee
At Adventure Sports we do not just certify divers: our goal is to “Build Confident Divers”. By practicing each skill you’ve learned throughout each level of your training, your actions become conditioned responses – second nature! SSI training ensures you retain what you’ve already learned, while you continue to learn more. If you are not totally comfortable with your skill set after the training you may come back to any scheduled pool time for more training until you feel you have the needed skills and confidence in the water. We also offer private classes that are tailored just for you (other charges may apply).
Open Water Diver Certification Course
Phase 1 – Knowledge Development: Knowledge replaces fears and fantasies with correct information. The SSI Home Study Total Teaching System (Full color Manual, DVD and Study Guide) will teach you certain safety rules and your instructor will relate that information in a “land value” to “water value” format with an interactive classroom presentation. With Digital Learning, you can study at your convenience anytime or anywhere. Try it on your computer, smart phone or tablet. With the advancement of digital learning, SSI has effectively mastered the uses of technology to strengthen the learning experience. The courses are clear, concise, completely interactive and fun. Digital learning should be finished 1-2 weeks before class starts.
Next is the classroom! Here you will review your digital learning with your instructor and also be properly fitted for your Total Diving System. Now you are ready for the fun stuff!
Phase 2 – Confined Water Dives: The safest way for anyone to become a diver is in their own high-quality, personally fitted Total Diving System. Being familiar with your equipment increases your ability and confidence using life support equipment. During your training, you will learn several equipment configurations which will enable you to make the best possible choice for your own Total Diving System. Your SSI instructor will teach you to dive using the equipment safely and confidently. There are only two ways that people learn — either shock or repetition. Shock is not a good way to learn anything, especially diving. SSI’s signature water training method is “Comfort though Repetition.” It is important to take the time to develop the skills necessary for you to become a safe and comfortable diver.
Our Junior Olympic sized pool is large enough and deep enough to correctly teach all of the required skills. You’ll master a series of five confined water dives, each building upon the previous set of skills. Like in Phase 1, the pace is based upon each individual’s progress. While training develops knowledge and skills, the only way to get experience is to go diving. This is why SSI encourages more open water dives during training instead of just the minimum number of dives as required by industry standards. The more you dive, the more you will enjoy the sport. So get out there, explore new worlds, meet new friends and see why diving with SSI stands for “The Ultimate Dive Experience”!

Phase 3 – Open Water Checkout Dives: To complete your Open Water Diver training you will need complete at least 4 open water dives. The SSI Open Water Diver certification is recognized worldwide so your diving experiences will be limitless. Open Water Checkout Dive Weekends are offered by Adventure Sports (Unlike other Shops that shore dive we dive from a spacious pontoon boat) at beautiful Beaver Lake Arkansas May-November. What Equipment Will You Need?
The safest way for anyone to become a diver is in their own high-quality, personally fitted Total Diving System. Being familiar with your equipment increases your ability and confidence using life support equipment. During your training, you will learn several equipment configurations which will enable you to make the best possible choice for your own Total Diving System.
The good news is, we supply most of the equipment you need for your pool and open water training dives, including BC’s, weights, weight belts, cylinders, and regulators. This is top quality equipment that we would not only be happy to use ourselves, but have our friends and loved ones use as well.
Required Equipment for All Course Activities
Students in our beginning scuba courses are required to provide the following items:
- Adjustable Fins
- Wet-suit Boots
- Wet-suits (may be rented)
These personal equipment items are ones for which comfort and fit are not only important, they’re critical. They are also items that, as a certified diver, dive operators expect you to own. In other words, you do not want to go anywhere as a diver without them.
It’s also important to understand that, to be suitable for scuba diving, masks, snorkels and fins must meet a very different set of requirements than they might for casual snorkeling. Therefore, it’s important you not purchase any equipment items without talking to us first. Adventure Sports does not allow equipment purchased elsewhere in our pool or on Open Water Dives due to liability reasons.
You will be expected to use the same BC and regulator system during open water training that you did in the pool. Equipment purchased anywhere other than Adventure Sports may not be used during any Open Water Diver Training.
Open Water Diver Students are given 10% off equipment purchases during enrollment and classes.
